Arlington, VA- The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has established an online Veterans Resource Center to help support active duty military personnel, veterans and their families facing serious mental illnesses such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and schizophrenia.
“We are a nation at war,” said NAMI executive director Michael J. Fitzpatrick. “The war includes mental illness. Many veterans who return from active duty face a second war at home, confronting profound mental health problems. Their families also are affected.” Read the rest of this entry →

The New Mexico State NAACP Annual Conference is being held in Alamogordo, NM and hosted by the Otero County NAACP Branch on October 19 and 20, 2007. Our theme this year is “Into the Future: Honoring the Past.”
The Keynote Speaker will be Marsha K. Hardeman. Ms Hardeman is a graduate of Indiana University, where she earned a Masters of Arts in Public Administration. She was later awarded her Juris Doctorate by the University Of New Mexico School Of Law. Hardeman owns and operates her own management/training practice, IMAGES, Ltd. and

The sign designating the sponsorship of MLK Drive by the NAACP of Otero County and the MLK Jr. Committee was “planted” this week near the corner of MLK and Hamilton Rd. Joel Hamilton, Esther and James Washington provided their expertise! The name of the young man from Keep Alamogordo Beautiful City is pending.

The Otero County Chapter is hosting the 2007 NAACP State Conference on October 19 and 20, 2007. Early registration forms will be mailed to Otero County members and to NM chapters for distribution.
Early registration cost will be $75 and on site registration will be $150. This cost will cover dinner on Friday, lunch and dinner on Saturday. The official site for this conference is the Elks Club on Hamilton Road and the two official conference hotel sites are the Hampton Inn (505-439-1782) and the Holiday Inn Express (505-437-7100).
These hotels are offering conference attendees a price of $80. per room until September 19, 2007. Other Hotels in the area are Comfort Inn (505-434-4200) @ $68, Qualuty Inn (505-437-7100) @$60 and Best Western (505-437-2110) @$55-$66.
Entertainment on Friday night will be a drumming group from Las Cruces, New Mexico and the guest speaker on Saturday night will be Ms. Mary Hardeman. We welcome NAACP delegates and members to our town in celebration of this event whose theme is “Into the Future, Honoring the Past”.

The web-guy (yours truly) was experiencing difficulties posting and keeping track of old and new material as well as photos under the old system due to the increasing amount of material coming available (plus the web-guys advancing age and retreating memory.)
WordPress, the system you are now viewing, has a top-notch content and photo management system which will greatly lessen my work load. There are also literally hundreds of different “skins” available that are easy to change.
I will be transferring all the old content to this system and should be finished within the week.
