<description>I really respect this movement, but I encourage readers, especially the black men, to also become more proactively engaged in preventing our young men from getting involved in this risky activity in the first place by being mentors, school teachers, and fathers. We must be more proactive and less reactive because the fact is that we can be much more effective at reducing jail time, when we keep them from going to jail in the first place.

The huge number of black males in prison reduces our power and influence in American Society. Influence is what we need to change the laws that are locking our young men up at alarming rates. Influence can be obtained through wealth, votes, real property, and concerted effort (such as this form). But votes, real property, and concerted effort needs the support of the masses. Substantial wealth can be quite influential in its own right.

If we ingrain in our culture an educate first mentality, we can obtain wealth and real property and then utilize our influence to push change, much like the Jewish community.

That's just a thought...
